is your laundry room boring? do you hate going into the laundry room only slightly less than you hate doing laundry at all in the first place?

well, fear not, friends. i have brought you your salvation.

it all started with this:
this is someone else's work, i take no credit for it
which i found on pinterest, via here.

i showed it to the bf. he had a good chuckle. but then i said, “i’m totally doing this in my laundry room!!” and he immediately stopped laughing, and with a slightly aghast look on his face, asked, “are you serious?”

and i was like, yeah. fuck yeah. and then i went into my laundry room, took a look around, and came up with some other ideas.

so here’s what i did (after the bf decided that if it was really what i wanted, then if i was happy he was happy. [you’re goddamned right you’re happy with it.]) – i lined out the space where i knew it would fit to be seen with the door open. since the door is open 98% of the time, since the laundry room is also where the litter box is. ugh. here’s the wall before i got started:
pretty boring, huh?

dullsville, right? also, while i was at it, i wanted to find an easier way to deal with getting the detergent and fabric softener into the machine without hauling the bottles up outta the drawers down below and putting them back every time. and if you have machines like mine, you know that no matter how well installed they are, a good strong spin cycle will send those bottles for a walkabout. so i decided to install a shelf, just above the washer, that i could then put both the detergent and the softener on, side by side, so that i didn’t even have to move them around to get them to pour right into the dispenser!

but back to the awesomeness that is my wall.

we have a lot of leftovers of these two shades of turquoise-ish, blue-ish paints that we used on a bathroom recently. enough that i figure eventually i’ll go ahead and paint the whole laundry room. maybe when i get around to building a work space in there for my sewing machine. at the moment, though, that space is being used for shit like the litter box and the server rack for our home office, etc. *anyway* since we have this paint, i decided to use it for this little project. because i initially planned on doing this with sharpies. but turns out, drywall really sucks up the ink outta those sharpies. and it was taking the better part of a whole sharpie for each letter. which was exhausting to stand there and color in. but when i changed over to paint – well, that i managed to get done in about an hour.
the awesomeness that is my laundry room

isn’t that fucking awesome?!?!

so i painted that on the wall. then i bought those two bottles for the detergent and fabric softener at h.e.b., because i knew they’d be narrow enough to sit side by side and aimed directly at the dispenser without having to move, plus hold enough liquids that i wouldn’t have to refill them every few weeks. and finally, if you can’t tell, i also added a finishing touch to the fabric softener bottle… “soften that shit up!”

at the end of the day, my whole project cost about $30, if you don’t include the cost of the paint (since it was from the aforementioned bathroom project). the bottles were $8 each, the shelf was $7 and the brackets were $2 each from home depot, then the silver sharpie (for the outline on the letters) was $2 at target.

i mean, if i’d taken more time, sure, i could have maybe done a better job with my lettering, or even made the whole thing cursive or whatever. but you know what? i just did it for the hell of it. it was fun. and it makes me laugh every time i go in there to do the laundry. unlike, you know, actually doing the laundry.

the bf drew the line at my painting “drop your shit here” with a huge arrow above the litter box though.

party pooper (pun intended).
